On Monday, March 15th all Ballard (neighborhood) community groups will join our neighbors to learn more about how local non-profits are making Ballard a better place. Six different organizations will share their mission and some specific areas that they need help.
Over the next week, many groups will be posting flyers inviting our neighbors to join. Please invite anyone you feel would enjoy the event.
Each community group is responsible for contributing $15 (to cover the hall rental, please pay your leader) and enough appetizers to feed your group plus 10 guests.

Participating Organizations:
Ballard Food Bank
Founded in 1970 as the Northend Emergency Fund, the Ballard Food Bank has evolved to become the leading agency meeting the need for food and emergency services in the communities of Ballard, Magnolia, and Queen Anne. The food pantry, our core program, is open three times weekly and distributes more than $1.6 million worth of grocery items annually. Our home delivery program serves approximately 85 households weekly. This is a vital service for restricted mobility seniors and people with disabilities who could not otherwise access the food pantry at our regular business location. Through our resource and referral service, clients rely on us not only for food but as an entry point for access to other social services. We also provide emergency financial assistance to people facing eviction, utility shut off, or in need of help with state identification card replacement. Other supports include mailbox services, a clothing closet, basic hygiene items and distribution of sack lunches for clients accessing the food pantry.
East Ballard Neighborhood Association
The ebca’s mission is to build strong working relationships and facilitate communication between local businesses, organizations and institutions in the East Ballard Community. We host bi-monthly community events and sponsor community building projects, like Planting Partnerships on 14th Ave NW and 14th Ave NW Park Boulevard Project. http://www.eastballard.wordpress.com
Volunteer Chore Services
Volunteer Chore Service (VCS) is a program of Catholic Community Services committed to helping low-income elders and adults with disabilities remain independent in their own home through a network of caring community member. VCS volunteers may provide assistance with housework, shopping, transportation, laundry and yard care. Volunteers choose the day, time and location that are most convenient for their schedule. We strive to make the best client-volunteer matches.
Groundswell NW
Groundswell NW is a home grown, neighborhood non-profit organization devoted to the creation and preservation of parks and habitat in northwest Seattle. We are currently engaged in several large projects and seeking board members to increase our organizational capacity. How can we facilitate your involvement? Visit us at www.groundswellnw.org <http://www.groundswellnw.org> !
YoungLife
Young Life reaches out to adolescents by going where they are, building relationships and sharing the good news of Jesus in language they understand. Adult leaders range from college sophomores all the way to grandparents—the only requirements are following Jesus, loving kids and being willing to build a schedule that reflects those requirements. We reach out to all young people but our focus is those who are unchurched or exchurched. In NW Seattle we have ministry at Ballard HS, Lakeside HS, Whitman MS, Hamilton MS, Lakeside MS and YoungLives, a ministry to teen mothers.
